Capel Street

Number 1 and 2 Capel Street on the corner of Capel Street and Ormond Quay are immortalised in James Malton’s print of 1797 entitled ‘View of Capel Street’.

The buildings are shown as brickfaced rather than rendered as they are today. However the original round-headed windows on the first floor of number one still survive. The former Taoiseach Seán Lemass was born in Number 2 in 1899.

Works here included restoration of the internal part of the buildings, window salvaging, below ground tanking (River Liffey runs at the same level as the basement), new electrical and mechanical.
